Watery eyes can be dry, too!

November 5, 2019

My working hours are from 9 am to 5 pm, but I rarely leave the office that early. I was offered this job only last month and there is always something to be done. I hate the old air-conditioner in my office, which makes the air extremely dry. My eyes always burn and water a lot. I frequently use eye drops, but they only seem to make me feel better for a short time. I never think I have dry eye syndrome.

Before bedtime, I used to watch my favorite shows on Netflix, but those glory days are gone. Nowadays, I just want to sleep when I get home, to relieve my eyes. Strange as it may sound, my ophthalmologist told me that watery eyes could be a sign of dry eye disease.

Following his advice, in addition to moisturizing my eyes with eye drops, I blink more frequently, minimize exposure to the conditioner and put a humidifier next to my bed. After a week, I notice some improvement. Even though my eyes are still a little bit irritated, it seems like my eye drops are really helpful in alleviating the burning sensation, and the itchiness.
