It also dries out your eyes!

In today’s digital era, extended screen time has become common, especially in modern work environments. Prolonged use of electronic devices are major contributors to work-related eye problems. However, symptoms like eye fatigue or dry, irritated eyes can be confusing and easy to overlook, as long hours in front of a computer have become the new norm.

Without realizing it, this habit can pose health risks. One of the most common is Dry Eye Disease (DED). If left untreated, this condition can affect your quality of vision and comfort which can directly reduce your productivity

What is DED and why are you at risk?

Dry eye disease is a common condition that occurs when your tears are not able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. This condition is especially prevalent in modern work environments, particularly in air-conditioned offices with artificial lighting and poor air circulation. Workers who use computers for extended periods are especially vulnerable.

Symptoms are not limited to burning, itching, or a gritty sensation in the eyes. Some people also experience blurred vision, fatigue, and difficulty focusing.

Good Eyes, Good Work!
Here are some easy tips for you, that can help maintain your eye health. It is not just about stepping away from the screen. You need to be comprehensive and consistent to support both healthy eyes and productive work :

  • 20-20-20 method: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It
encourages blinking and resets your eye focus.
  • Work space, your comfort area :Use a humidifier, reduce direct airflow from fans or air
conditioning, and adjust your screen brightness to reduce strain.
  • Use lubricating eye drops regularly: Artificial tears or preservative-free eye drops help
    replenish moisture and reduce irritation.
  • Don’t Ignore Symptoms : If your eyes feel persistently dry, itchy, or fatigued, consult an eye
care professional early. You may need prescription therapies to address your dry eyes
    adequately.
  • Support a good office environment : Encourage visual breaks and create an ergonomic office
    setup.

Your Eyes Deserve Breaks Too
Your eyes are the windows to productivity. That is why you need to take care of your eye health while pursuing your work goals. Be aware if you are experiencing dry eye symptoms, as they can affect your work performance. Here’s a reminder for you: “Deadlines can wait. Your eye health can’t. Protect your vision by resting your eyes, using appropriate eye drops, and staying productive.”
